Paprika Recipe Manager 3 2 1/2

  • Great app, poor pricing Paprika is one of those apps that's right on the edge of greatness and recommendability. It does the job exceptionally well, but to really be able to use it consistently you need it on multiple platforms - for which the developer charges separately. In addition, there is no way to share recipes or categories collaboratively - ie, be able to create a 'cocktails' category with friends and both be able to manage/add to it. Instead you have to manually share one off recipes. I would heartily suggest to the developer that they find some purchase model that allows access to all apps across platforms with more robust syncing. I *don't* suggest a yearly subscription - don't think most will see the value. Unless it's something like $3.99/year for access to all versions. That would be reasonable IMO. Good luck!

  • Used to love this till they made updates incompatible As much as I love my Mac, I really hate that apps have the gall to make updates not compatible with fully supported OS's. Apple still supports High Sierra, yet many apps including Apple's apps as well have made their apps no longer upgradeable or in Apple's case they made data not sharable between different versions (Mac on OS High Sierra, iPad and iPhone on latest Catalina). It's appalling that you do this as I can't imagine there's all that much difference in the operating systems even when upgraded. What I find super appalling though is that the latest version, no longer compatible with my fully supported OS, is only fixes to the previous version and nothing else!!!! I paid for this app, but now I have to live with a defective product because they won't give my OS version the fixes?? Totally unacceptable. I will not ever buy another app from this company!!

  • Horrible . I bought this for my mac book to convert old recipes from pdf or jpg and I cant see how to do it . I sent a queston into their Zen desk and no response. I paid $20 for something I cant even use it . :( I would like a refund

  • Wonderful I have tried a few different apps but this one constantly grabs web recipes without fail. Also syncs without issue between platforms.

  • Great app, desktop is expensive and I wish I could share recipes Great app, I use a lot on my phone and ipad when cooking, and was resisting buying on the desktop becuase it's so expensive, but I gave in and did it anyway.my only complaint is I wish that I could share recipes and grocery lists with my wife for when we're grocery shopping and meal planning.

  • Worth Every Penny Paprika is a great little application that does almost everything I could ask. If you could let me plug it into Whole Foods pickup ordering it would make meal planning for my family truly frictionless. Well worth the money, on par with the value I get from Day One.

  • Lost the Back Up Feature I've used Paprika for years and have really liked it. I decided to upgrade to version 3 and regret it. The first thing I noticed is that the back up feature is gone. The only way to back up recipes is to use the Cloud. I'm not a fan of using the Cloud for anything. I'm going back to using the older version that still has the backup and restore feature and mourn the loss of the $29.99 I spend on the upgrade.

  • Excellent App Am nuts about this app and have used it for years. I have on my desktop, tablet, and phone. I can easily download recipes from favored websites and create mulitple grocery lists. Would love to include videos for recipes that have them.

  • Amazing App, Best one out there I've tried several and then came across this about 2 years ago. I love that it syncs to my other devices and I use this exclusively now. Some people talk about price being high and it is compared to other apps but so are the features and functionality (like the auto loading of recipe from URL). I don't mind the price as long as it comes with new release level and new functionality I can use I'll gladly pay. If they go to subscription and give me nothing for the increased price, then yes, I'll complain then.

  • Best I have used and thats a lot of em. This app is the best on any platform hands down. I instatly copies recipes from web sites and you can enter them manually.

  • Love this software This isn't an app but a well thought out software application. It keeps me organized for our favorites and our 'we tried it and let's not do that again.' If I get to one of our well provisioned stores and I cannot find the primary protien, I reach to Paprika for options. If I have lemons, spinach, chicken, I use the Paprika browser, end up on Delish, and download and enjoy their Lemon Chicken with Spinach. This is great software and worth every penny for all your devices.

  • Bad UI 2 major annoyances. You have to edit a recipe to rate it, which in the grand scheme of things is really minor. The single largest annoyance is that if you have a recipe and your organize it into a folder (say 'currently cooking recipies') and you delete it from that folder it deletes the entire recipie from the whole app. What a terrible system! That coupled with the fact there isn't an easy, oh hey did you want to just re-catagorize this? or similar style interface is just terrible UI design.

  • So Good! This app pays for its self on the first week. Love it, me and my wife use it and has solved one of our homes problems. Food planning!

  • great app - easy to use! We downloaded Paprika, picked a recipe, imported it and have been hooked ever since. It was quite refreshing to just get going and get immediate benefit, building out our first week of meal planning within the first week of using it.It is great to have recipes locally so we don't have to depend upon them still being on the web, and we don't have to dodge all the advertisements just to read them. Also, it is really nice to update recipes as to our own preferences.

  • Purchased to replace MacGourmet Been a user of MacGourmet from the start. Mariner has been having sync issues with their server for months. Out of frustration I purchased Paprika 3 - glad I did, easy one-step export from MacGoumet (use MG4 database) then import into Paprika. Finally have a receipe app on my Mac and iPhone again (in sync). Importing from web sites not quite as simple - need to cut/paste into Paprika, but simple enough vs. just using the URL.

  • 100% worth it for mobile, desktop too pricy Translatium 7 6 0 download free. This is hands down the best recipe app I've used. I have it on my phone, iPad, and desktop and my only complaint is that the desktop version was woefully overpriced. Should have only gone with the iPhone and iPad versions. Buy this app!

  • Great app Waiting for a year for MacGourmet to get fixed (used it for years), & tired of the lip service that we were getting, I decided to jump ship and try this. I am very pleased with the result. It imported my recipes without an issue and I am catching up on my own new recipes and entering by hand so far. I purchased the IOS app and sync is fast and effortless. It took me a bit to learn how they do things but this is what I am sticking with. I like the Pantry section so I can keep track of what I have at home while shopping if I get inspired on the road. I hope this continues to get support through the years! Well done!

  • not sure what else I could ask for There isn't a detail I can think of missing from Paprika.I keep it on our kitchen iPad for cooking, but it also syncs with my phone so I can have an on-the-go grocery list or save recipes from whatever web page I'm on. And since it syncs using its own sync service (instead of iCloud), my wife and I can both be signed in on our respective devices, sharing the recipe database, shopping lists and meal planner. Most impressively, you can point it at more or less any recipe online and it will import it beautifully.

  • Thank goodness! I used Mac Gourmet for years, but as is well-documented over on their reviews, it just kind of fell apart in the last six months. Exporting/importing into Paprika was stunningly simple, and all my recipes/categories/photos are in place. BONUS: It has also replaced my grocery list app which had also begun to disintegrate. Well done! https://trueoload234.weebly.com/html-egg-7-80-9-128.html.

  • Awesome in under 5 minutes Wow! I hardly EVER write reviews, but this app is really THAT amazing. Point it to any web page with a recipie, and it scans the page and imports the ingredients, instructions, and images into a very well-organized format. This is the app all others should aspire to be!

  • Great app, bad price I have been using this app for a few weeks and have become slightly obsessed with it. I originally purchase the iPad app, which in my opinion is where this app really shines, and the iPad is right at home in the kitchen. This has been a wonderful way to digitize and organize family recipes that are older than I am, and I am working on adding more and more.I do, however, have two issues with this app. First and foremost is the price. As mentioned, I started with the iPad app, which is very reasonably priced. I figured, since I am spending time copying recipes, I may as well get it on the computer for ease of typing, so I decided it was worth pony-ing up the $30 for this app. Not to say it's not worth it; it probably would be. But after paying only $5 for the iPad app, $30 for this one seemed a little steep. Also, it has seemed disappointing, for that price. The graphic interface isn't near as polished as the iPad app, and it actually is missing a very minor, but key, feature from the iPad app: I can't input fractions into the recipe. For example: 1/2 vs ½. Totally minor, but bothers the crap out of me.All that said, I'm still very happy with the end result; this app makes cooking, organizing, planning, and shopping all so much easier!

  • If you asked me which app most improved my life. This is the first app I've ever felt strongly enough to write a review of. Paprika is so f'ing rad. It streamlines everything about shopping, meal planning, and cooking in an age where the box of recipe cards and newspaper clippings doesn't make sense any more. This is going to sound cheesy, but food – getting it, preparing it, enjoying it – is truly the heart and soul of a household, and Paprika has been our trusty companion in this journey. When my boyfriend and I started dating, it was a fun way to share recipes. When we moved in together, it helped us learn to shop, cook, and communicate together. Now that we're married with a baby, it's our one-stop clearinghouse for family food planning. Yup, we've had Paprika throughout our entire relationship – and honestly if it hadn't existed I probably would have tried to write it myself.Enough waxing poetic. Here are the little touches that make Paprika great.- Super useful recipe scaling- Clever downloader saves tons of time- Correctly categorizes ingredients in multiple languages- Reminds you in the shopping list what ingredients a recipe is for- Fast and flawless syncing across multiple devices- Easy-to-read cookbook view – a super old iPad is our 'kitchen iPad' and just runs PaprikaEven better than what's there, is what's NOT there. I work in tech and I know how hard these 'features' are to resist:- No ads- No freemium upsells- No partnerships with specific recipe websites – I know what I want, don't tell me what to eat please- No pressure to post/pin/tweet my recipes- No 'smart' reminders trying to machine-learn my shopping preferences – dude, I know when I am out of nutmeg, I don't need help from AIPaprika team, I hope you're reading this: thank you for making an app that truly improves daily life. Everyone else: GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY.

  • What a great application! Having used another recipe app for several years, and just now having found Paprika, I'm impressed with how excellent this application is.I particularly love grabbing recipes off the web and pulling them directly into Paprika; I also like how flexible the app is on both Mac and iOS.One of my favorite Mac/iOS apps, hands down.

  • Great app for sharing recipes with family and friends I use this app every day and am so grateful to the app developers. I search for recipes in the embedded search tool, download recipes, populate grocery lists, make menus and share recipes with people who also have the app and people who don't have the app. I love that I can easily add helpful comments in the notes section. It makes my life better.

  • Great app I had been thinking about writing an app for recipe management, but after hearing a couple of the hosts on Mac Break Weekly rave about this program I decided to take the plunge. It's SO much better than what I had in mind. Yes, it's not free or 99 cents, but it's good value for the price and I prefer paying once up front compared to subscribing. I use it so often that I just set up a Safari keyboard shortcut for importing recipes.

  • AMAZING Love love love this app. We have been using it for years. It has saved us time, money, and allowed us to categorize our recpies in a way that is easy to find and keep organized. I would love for the option to become friends with people in the app and recipe share! Maybe something to think about for the next version? Customer for life!

  • Worst support ever I wish the developers of this App did a better job of supporting the product. I looked on their site for help on my cloud/sync issue, to no avail. I've sent two email requests for help (same issue) and recieved zero response.Maybe they are a small company, but they need to offer better support. They got my money, I'd like thier help.An update - today, after weeks of no help, I created a new account to sync to. I logged out of the old one, and into the new. Sent my recipes from my Mac to the new cloud account, only to have ALL my catagories disappear. Paprika is quickly becoming one of my least favorite apps and the developers my least favorite as well.

  • macOS share extension is still broken Update: February 4, 2020 The macOS share is still broken and unusuable. There have been several updates to the app and several updates to the macOS and the app on my mac is still broken. If the app doesn't work with my version of the macOS why are they still selling it? They should state that in the information before you buy it . A total waste of money!!Update: Janurary 16,2020 The macOS share extension is still broken. I bought this app for my macbook on November 29,2019 and have emailed the developers numerous times about this problem. There was an update to the Paprika app just days ago that did not fix this problem. This app on the macbook is a total waste of money because it does not work. Very very disapointing.UpdateThe macOS share extension is still broken. I bought the app for my mac on November 29 2019 after they advertised their sale. I have their app on my ipad and loved it so I didn't think I would have any problems on my mac. I sent 2 emails to the support team and each email blamed apple and told me there wasn't any need for further emails concerning this subject. If you have a mac and are using Catalina do not purchase this app. It is unuseable. After 30 days they still have not fixed theal review:The macOS share extension is broken. I have Paprika on my ipads and iphone and they work perfectly. I downloaded the app for macOS and it was broken when I tried to use it right after I downloaded it. The app for the macOS is certainly not worth the $14.99 special.

  • The Best Recipe Manager Update: The Paprika developers have decided to put the syncing of scaling across devices back in with the newest release. Kudo's to them for listening to their users.I have used Paprika since it's initial release and have always loved it. 1stflip flipbook creator pro 2 8 17. I use it daily. In the last release, 3.4.0 they have removed the ability to sync the scaling betweein devices (OSX and iOS). So if you use a Mac, iPad and/or iPhone, you have to manually change the scaling when switching between devices. For me, that is a big change without utility. So I lowered my rating.

  • Stomps MacGourmet A great replacement for the now cloud-less MacGourmet. Imported my existing MacGourmet database easily with only very minor clean up issues. The free cloud storage works perfectly and synced with the iOS app really fast. The Safari extension imports recipes really well. A better finder rename simple complete powerful v11 00. Love the ability to cross off ingredients as you locate them.

  • Privacy Concerns Regretted my purchase almost immediately when I realized I have no control over where the proprietary files are stored on my Mac. Syncing is through their cloud management, with no option to sync thru iCloud or other online storage. The Privacy Agreement doesn't do anything to calm my fears. I expect an app with this hefty a price tag to not monetize my privacy to this extent.

  • Mad at MacGourmet I've been a MacGourmet user for several years and have loved all the features and syncing abilities with all of my devices. I travel a lot and depend on the syncing function. After several months of not being able to sync my recipes and terrible customer support, I was desperate to find another recipe manager. Paprika was rated best by users and magazines/blogs. I was able to download Paprika and import my MacGourmet files (over 600 recipes with pics) to my computer and phone in under 5 mins.so easy!! When spot checking, everything looks to have made it. I'm so excited to be back up and running. Thanks to those who wrote reviews!

  • Fantastic App that needs a few tweaks OverviewI've been using this app for several months. After trying the iOS version, I bought the Mac version and recently put it on my Windows laptop also. It's saved me time and helped me stay organized.OutstandingIt is easy to learn to customize categories, link recipes, scale and convert quantities, download and edit recipes and plan meals without reading instructions. The views are clean and simple and the app works beautifully while cooking since it's easy to track ingredients used, see which step of the directions you're on, and the smart timers are awesome.Needs WorkA few things fall short.Search: this is the most obvious shortfall and there is no meaningful search function. If I have a recipe that uses chickpeas, there is no way to find it unles 'chickpeas' is in the title. This is so basic, it almost made me stop using the app the first week.Replace: Along the same lines, there is no global search and replace so you end up with inconsistencies such as prep times showing up as '15m', '15 min', '15 minutes', etc.Consistency: Even better than search and replace would be some intelligence built in to standardize the downloaded content based on user preferences. Similar for the quantities and temperatures.Conversion: Conversion between metric and imperial is great, but the app does not convert temperatures.Meal-planning: clickstream could be improved since meal planning gets tedious adding recipes for a week. For example, on iOS, if you click the plus sign next to a date in order to add a recipe, you still get a screen showing the date 3 steps later. If you add a lunch to the meal plan and then add a new meal and select if from the 'Dinner' category, the default type will still be 'Lunch'. If a recipe is only in one category, it should automatically be added as that type. These issues exist on MacOS also. Not UsedThere are some potentially good features I just can't use.Grocery list: using this would require my wife to buy the app just for a grocery list and we have a dozen different shopping lists already on GroceryIQ.Pantry: This seems like too much effort to manage for the payoff and I do so much cooking without using this app that the quantities would never be in sync with what we really have in the pantry.Overall, still extremely happy with this app; though, it's not quite at 5 stars yet.

  • Better than MacGourmet After using MacGourmet for many years, the problems and sync failures became overwhelming. So I've installed this, and it's GREAT!Conversion was painless, 900 recipes imported without a flaw, and the sync with the iPhone app is seamless. I'm impressed. I also found the web import is much nicer and and works better than the MacGourmet import. I miss MG's wine list feature, but I can work around it easily (and it was always a bit clunky anyway).Strongly recommended.

  • Pantry feature needs to be fleshed out more I just bought this and really like the recipe management features. However, the pantry/grocery list functions really need to be fleshed out more to be useful.1. You can't search your pantry. You have to scroll up/down to look to see if you have something2. When you use the grocery list feature from within a recipe, it only does exact matching. i.e. If i was shopping for a bread recipe, 'yeast' in my pantry won't match 'instant yeast' in the recipe and the grocery list will say that i need to buy instant yeast.I'd love it if there was a better way to manage the pantry stuff which would make this the definitive app to manage recipes/grocery shopping/pantry management.

  • They do not respond to help requests I've been using this app for several years, and I like it very much. However, I've gone to their website several times over the past few years with questions, and have never received a response. My specific complaint is about the lack of search and replace. It has the options in the drop down menus, but they appear to have no functionality. If not for their lack of response, I would give them 5 stars.

  • One of my favorite apps I have been using Paprika on my iPad for years. One of my most used (daily) and loved apps. Features I love are the recipe import, meal planning, groceries and of course syncing with my iPad and iPhone. I have my recipes with me where ever I go. So easy to use and share recipes as well. If you like to cook, this is the recipe app for you.

  • Best Recipe Manager Ever! I've been a long-time user of MacGourmet Deluxe which has become kind of clunky, but mainly because the iOS MacGourmet app doesn't work at all. When I saw that Paprika was on sale I figured I'd give it a try. I bought not only the macOS version, but the iOS and iPadOS versions as well. I'm blown away!My recipes from MacGourmet imported seemlessly and completely, right down to the categories. It's so easy to add new recipes manually, if you wish, but I could not believe how easy it is to download recipes from webpages. Just hit download. It puts the recipes into Paprika quickly and perfectly. Sometimes I needed to do a little tweaking, but Paprika has such an easy-to-use, intuitive interface, it is quick and simple to make changes. The iOS apps sync perfectly. My only complaint is the search function. I would like to be able to search by ingredient within the recipes. It will only provide results if the ingredient is in the name of the recipe. As a result, I've had to add a bunch of categories I didn't need in MacGourmet, but it's not a big enough deal for me to deduct a star. I just hope Paprika's search function improves in the future. All in all, I'm a happy cooker!

  • Good App I used Yummy Soup for ~ 5 years but got a new mac and it is not available, so I needed a replacement. This seemed very compairable in that is can be synced on my ipad and iphone, (for additonal app fee) the recipes are scalable and it can produce a shopping list. Is easy to enter your own favorites but also super easy to use the downloader from the internet (just like yummy soup) with accuracy and minimal editing. One reason I chose this was because I could import my recipes from my yummy soup and didn't have to start all over (though each recipe had to be imported seperately. I plan to reutrn after some time with an update review.(Would be great to see it calculate nutrition information based on ingredient lists for my own recipies). Think the timer function is a clever idea espciailly if cooking multiple things as I only have two timers.

  • Best Recipe Organizer and Downloader Ever! This app deserves a 5 out of 5 - and it is worth paying the premium so that I can keep a list of my spices from my pantry.Let's break this app down bit by bit and I will start off with the best features.1.> Imagine going to most websites there there is a recipe or joining a forum on cooking where shared recipe links are provided. A quick copy or share to the Paprika app and the recipe is ready to download. Hit the download button and assign it a cetegory and that's it! I have saved hundreds of recipes this way. I enjoy the ease in which I am able to download multitudes of recipes. Ever read something like '50 best pasta dishes' and you click through the recipes and maybe 30 of them are really good? In Safari, save them to read later (yes, all 30) and then when you are watching tv or got a moment to spare, go through the links saved for read later and share them with this app. Delete the website from your read later list as you go. No pressure and it is at your leisure!2> Pantry - Holy wow! Took me two hours to go through my spices and add them to the pantry. I only use pantry for spices. I don't care to keep up with canned vegetables or other staples. I can keep up with that mentally or not a big deal to just go buy more but spices. you know how expensive a jar of good spices can be! Sadly, the strength of spcies weaken over time. I am adding my spices to the pantry part of the app and I come across Penzeys Vindaloo. I go on the internet, find a very good recipe for Vindaloo chicken and I end up using the small bottle of spice (Vindaloo is various spices that makes up what you need for Vindaloo chicken). The Vindaloo chicken was totally amazing and out of curiousity, I used other spices that make up the Vindaloo seasoning and not quite as good so this tells me to buy more Vindaloo seasoning.3> Categories - What can I say? When I got my Instant Pot it became an overnight sensation worldwide and over time, recipes began cropping up and now I have a huge library of Instant Pot recipes and some I use over and over.4.> Favories - This app allows me to add recipes to favorites so that I can continue cooking over and over.5> Recipes to try. My partner made this amazing greek orzo lemony soup that was out of this world. She used YouTube videos and had to go to several ones. I quickly ascertained the ingredients and procedures and added this to my recipes in Paprika. It's so nice when people we know cook something and we like it so much, we want to make it ourselves for them! It lets them know we care about them and we notice what they cook.6.> As I am cooking, I can cross off ingredients I added and procedures I have done. Simple. Easy. Fun.7.> Across many platforms. What can I say? It's truly remarkable. I have over 20,000 recipes that I have imported and saved and I love being able to sync to various devices so when I need to cook, I can access it from various ways.8.> Fast. The app is fast and easy to search for recipes. Tile mode allows me to see pictures of food. As you make something that you pulled from the internet, why not add your own picture?9.> Grocery List. Eh, I don't use this feature much but when I do get in the mood of putting together a couple of recipes over the wekend, it's nice to add ingredients to the grocery list and when you get to the store I know what recipe each ingredient is for. I've changed my mind sometimes when I see price of beef or chicken! It's an opportunity for me to tweak ingredients too based on the recipe.10> It's good to document all that we do in regards to cooking so that we can pass on our favorite meals to cook. It's a blessing to be able to share. Often, I talk about a certain recipe and someone is interested in making it and I can easily share the recipe via messenger, text, email, or a facebook post. They are surprised they don't have to write the recipe down and how quickly I can provide it to them. It's one of the best and most used apps I have and I love how it is continually imrpoved. The app doesn't stop you from still searching the internet for new things to try but when you do find that nugget of a recipe, it's sweet to capture it and add your own personal notes and touches to the recipe. What works and what doesn't work,Negative - doesn't calculate the calories. However, with enough work, you can put the recipe into myfitenss pal as a meal, get the calories, and copy the information back over to the recipe. A bit of pain, but a simple reminder of how much a cup of the recipe is in calories. For those recipes you cook over and over this might be a good way to keep tabs on just how many calories you are talking about.

  • Lacks Search in Pantry, Making That Feature Pretty Useless. App may also be abandoned. BUT. One of the main touted features is the panty inventory. After a while, the list becomes long and is a royal pain to scroll through for used items while cooking or tyring to make a grocery list, so this feature is totally useless in version 3.Hopefully, they'll fix that.Otherwise, if you just want to use it for a recipe manager it's stellar at that, bar none. No better way to download and organize recipes. If you want to use it for groceries and don't mind losing the feature of moving things to the pantry after shopping (just delete your grocery list), then that's good, too. But the pantry? Useless if you have mpre than a few dozen items.Tech support is non-existant as others have repeatedly stated. If you have an issue, you're on your own. No blog updates from the developer since April. There's nothing on their social media accounts, either. Radio silence. I do hope they aren't abandoing the app!
